Chiropractic care will help teenagers with living healthy

A minor misconception of chiropractic practice is that it is only necessary or customary for older people or people who have been victims of a car accident or slip and fall. However, this could not be falser. Teens face immense amounts of pressure, weight, and tension in their necks and backs caused by things such as the weight of their backpack, the angle at which they are texting, and their time spent on their computers and playing video games for hours on end. As time goes on, severe problems will follow. Chiropractic care can relieve the symptoms of poor posture with regular visits.

Chiropractic Can Assist Your Little One into Their Teenage Years

Between the ages 7 and 10, misalignments of the spine are far more probable when they are active and are close to puberty, fall off their bike, and especially during tumbles during sports. When they become teenagers, they begin to see an influx in the amount of time spent watching TV, playing video games. In most of these instances, they will be sitting in a head-down position or with their shoulders hunched over for long periods during a day, days on end. Although children’s same postural deviations may be present in teens, you will find that teens may express symptoms of spinal stress more clearly, including neck and shoulder tension, headaches, and teenage girls, even menstruation problems. However, this does not have to be the case. With a visit to your local chiropractor, you can help your teen become a problem.

5 Advantages of Chiropractic Care for A Growing Child

All Around Pain Management

  • When you bring your child to their pediatrician for an injury, the likelihood is high that they will advise a pill and rest. The problem is that it is not getting to the root of the problem and teaches our children to allow medication alone to heal the body. This theory does not show our children that a medical doctor and a Doctor of Chiropractic are advantageous. Fortunately, chiropractic care not only focuses on your injury but can ease pain across the entire body and be preventive medicine for your children’s continued growth and development. Every aspect of the body is related to the spine. An adjustment can be the answer to your child’s discomfort.

Improves Mental Health

  • Teens today deal with a lot of stress. From fluctuating friend groups, working to keep their grades up, and pressure at home, all of these things can lead to anxiety and depression. Not to mention the influx in hormones they are experiencing, tensions are high in teenage life. In just one visit, through spinal manipulation, they can experience mental calm, which immensely brings about stress relief and better mood. Through routine visits, teens can also learn breathing techniques to help them cope with the things in their life, leading them to lose control of their emotions. With these visits, teens can discover ways to breathe and deal with the stressors plaguing their minds. With a calmer mind comes more ability to focus on schoolwork.

Healing Benefits

  • An athlete or not, teens lead an immensely active lifestyle. Regardless of if it is hours of lacrosse or walking around the mall, they are prone to injury. Luckily, a majority of these injuries are preventable. Chiropractic adjustments are the answer. The adjustments realign the spine properly and flex the muscles to make them less susceptible to injuries. Chiropractors will align the range, which then promotes efficient function and energy use in the body. These adjustments help to fasten the healing process. By adjusting the spine, their immunity improves. On top of the breathing techniques and destressing, this promotes natural healing.

Boosting their Growth

  • During the teen years, the body is at the peak of its growth. For many teens, due to hormones, they change stature at a more rapid pace than others. For others, the development is so slow, and it appears as though they are not growing at all. It can cause both growing pains as well as imbalance and awkwardness. All these issues, luckily, can be fixed by routine chiropractic visits. It plays a critical role in helping them attain optimal growth. Not only that, but these visits ease growing pains, allowing the process of becoming an adult to become significantly more comfortable. Chiropractic care may help by ensuring the most efficient function of the spine and central nervous system, which helps diminish pain and improve the overall balance of the body.

Creating healthy habits for a healthy life

  • Chiropractic care is not only short-term relief but a long-term cure. With frequent visits, teens learn the proper way to care for themselves and respect their bodies. Whether it is eating healthy, exercising correctly, or getting the posture right, our teenagers can learn the right way. They learn to appreciate the health benefits they feel after treating their body with the proper care necessary. Frustration occurs when a parent or guardian requires them to stay healthy now; however, it will be appreciated by the good habits they have been taught as an adult. Because chiropractic is part of a holistic approach to health, most chiropractors encourage good nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress relief as part of an overall health outlook. By bringing your teen to the chiropractor, you are setting them up to develop good health habits for life.

From infants to pregnant women to the elderly, chiropractic care can bring tremendous benefits to the body. And of course, it helps those who fall somewhere in the middle as well. In some cases, chiropractic treatment may even reverse spine damage caused by poor posture and misalignment. Teenagers’ bodies experience pain associated with rapid growth, strain from carrying around heavy backpacks and looking at their phones, sports injuries, and other events that can take a toll on their overall health. There is no better time than now to schedule regular chiropractic appointments for your teenager. Early youth chiropractic adjustments can help teens develop lifelong habits that promote health and wellness, not to mention helping ease the things in their life now.

Call the Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida to assist your teenager in a stress-free lifestyle that not only promotes proactive wellbeing at a young age but also encourages a better way for the remainder of their lives.

What Exactly is a Chiropractor and How Can They Help Me?

What Exactly is a Chiropractor and How Can They Help Me?

What Exactly is a Chiropractor and How Can They Help Me?

Many people who are not as familiar with chiropractic care as they are with the historical primary care medicine might be unaware that the two have worked simultaneously for years.

Along with your medical physician’s standard of care, some regularly utilize a chiropractor to further advance their health and assist them in returning to optimal well-being.

So, let us begin with exactly what chiropractic care consists of. Some may say that chiropractic is alternative care, and for others, it might be the only practice required to keep you healthy and feeling well. However, for the majority, they need an addition to their medical doctor.

Let us first clear a misconception that chiropractors are not medical doctors. Chiropractors spend as much time as a medical doctor in getting their degree. Doctor of Chiropractic Care cares about people and provides non-invasive, personalized care and treatment. It is a respective alternative to modern medicine. It has earned the same respect in their field as a Doctor of Education or a Doctor of Philosophy for they are the highest university degree conferred after a course of study by universities in most countries and are respected at the top of their field. Doctor of Chiropractic is well-versed in the sciences, including anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and other studies relevant to the advancement of healthcare’s proactive wellness model.

Chiropractic care is defined as: According to Merriam Webster: A licensed healthcare professional who treats disorders (such as back and neck pain) chiefly on the musculoskeletal system, primarily through the manual adjustments or manipulating the spinal vertebrae to correct nervous system dysfunction.

On a more detailed note, Chiropractic is a science, art, and philosophy.

One that utilizes the body’s inherent recuperative abilities and deals with the relationship between the spinal column and the nervous system and its role in the restoration maintenance of health. With that being said, chiropractors treat many conditions above and beyond spinal adjustments.

A medical doctor treats with drugs and surgery to deal with the symptoms of pain and illness. On an alternate note, chiropractic works on the root cause by adjusting to correct the actual cause of many modern medicine health problems.

To achieve the end goal, which is feeling better, pursuing your goals in life, and being the best, you can be there are many reasons you might consider consulting Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida:

The history of chiropractic started as a profession in Davenport, Iowa, in September of 1895 by DD Palmer, and he first called it magnetic healing. The first thing you should know is chiropractic starts with the brain of which controls your body of which is responsible for sending out all signals to the rest of your body through your nervous system, which is the network to allow your body to function correctly. The nervous system is responsible for transmitting signals from your brain just like your boss at work to delegate your duties, as does the brain to the nervous system. A great example is when you touch something scalding the body’s senses from nerve ending send an immediate message to the brain to remove the stimulus that is causing the pain.

Your next question might be How does chiropractic work?

Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida can answer this question for you in simple terms because it is a simple medicine science. The practice of chiropractic’s focuses not only on your bones and nerves but also on your life. After an initial evaluation regarding your spine and how well you eat, if you exercise, your stress level and ways you reduce stress, your family life, and so on. They then create a specific care plan that is individualized to your personal needs of care, based on correcting the cause of your subluxations and possible associated symptoms.

Let us first define subluxation: a slight misalignment of the vertebrae, regarded in chiropractic theory as the cause of many health problems. The adjustments promote communication between your brain and body to flow freely through the blood flow and the transmission of nerve signals and the synapsis of nerve endings to direct the body to respond to the brain’s delegations of tasks and requests without the interruption of blocked avenues due to inflammation or misalignments. A perfect analogy is when a highway is congested due to an auto accident, and the five lanes must filter into two lanes.

One thing to consider with chiropractic care is that it will relieve your chronic problem. It is not a quick fix and being that it will restore your quality of life and require a commitment to treatment. Holistic medicine may require several adjustments over a few weeks to several months, keeping in mind the goal is to is fix the problem, keep it fixed, and keep it from happening again.

At Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida, our chiropractic’s ultimate goal is to help relieve pain and help patients better manage their condition at home and improve functions or mobility. Through treatments such as spinal decompression, physical therapy, and chiropractic adjustments.

Working from Home can be a Pain in the Back

Working from Home can be a Pain in the Back

Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida are Experts on How to Control Pain After a Car Accident

Over the last nine to ten months the times have changed for us all. Regardless if it is a car accident, slip & fall, or just being granted the opportunity to work from home. SOFLO has seen an increase in patients experiencing new aches and pains. Ergonomics in the office are important as you spend hours a day working away mostly from home. Just because you are not working from your office does not mean your workspace should not be spine friendly. Here are some wonderful ways to prevent back pain while working from your spare bedroom, living room, or kitchen, turned to an “office”. This can even apply to your children who are adapting to do schoolwork in an environment that does not allow for as much movement because of virtual learning time scheduled regimens. It has been estimated that during the COVID-19 pandemic came into our lives that roughly 1 in 6 U.S. workers, some26 million people, worked either partly or fully from home. Now as of November that number has grown to a significant amount. Although we are incredibly grateful for the ability and the income, we must adapt within our home schedules, routines, and most of all the well-being of not only our emotional status but our physical stature as well. If you and your family are one of the ones who are adapting to the changes you might be noticing new aches and pains that you did not experience at the office or your children did not complain about while attending school.

The pain usually starts very subtly with the symptoms being as minor as the ache you feel will entice you to have the need to get up and move around or to reposition consistently the back, shoulders, hips, or stretch out the lower back and neck. Unfortunately, once the pandemic has passed, remote working is likely to remain the norm for millions of workers, as companies learn that certain jobs do not require the in-office hours they once did. If you are already feeling the physical strain, the bad news is that you may be on the road to a potentially debilitating musculoskeletal injury, such as a bad back. Sore neck and shoulders, carpal tunnel syndrome or even a deep vein thrombosis, a condition in which blood clots form in the veins deep in your body primarily in the back of the knees that as a result return to the heart.
So, the question at hand is what do we do to prevent back, neck, shoulder, hip, and wrist pain as well as prevent life threatening conditions? The answer really is quite simple and actually is more conducive because we work from home and are not on a schedule as rigid as working in an office.

Keep Your Neck Straight

Regardless if you are viewing your screen or reviewing documents, what you are looking at should be at a comfortable viewing height. If you have your screen at too much of an angle, you will have to twist your neck to work and will end up with neck pain from the swiveling. Being that you are working from home you probably will not have the same set up that is provided for you at the office, but there are many solutions that do not require you to purchase anything such as taking a stack of books or paper to get your screen up to eye level. And the same goes for reading documents- if you keep your papers flat on the table, your head will constantly be moving up and down, and that after a short period of time will cause pain from muscle strain. Attempt to find a way to “prop up” your paper in a vertical position with a document holder or stand and keep it next to your screen for easy viewing.

Place Your Mouse and Keyboard at a Comfortable Height

Never look down at your screen and your keyboard should allow your shoulders, elbows, and wrist to be at a 90-degree angle of which is very beneficial for all previously mentioned, but will assist in lowering your neck and thoracic back (middle back) pain as well. You might have to be a little creative in what you can choose around the house to lift up the computer screen, laptop, or keyboard but we are more concerned about preventing injuries to our bodies while working rather than what our workstation looks like.

No Soft, Squishy Wrist Rest as well as Use a Voice Input

You might think that utilizing a wrist rest will provide stability to your hands and wrist but this quite the contrary for it adds compression on the finger flexor tendons and on the median nerve, which can increase the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. The majority of phones, computers, and laptops come with the option of voice recognition software. This is a useful tool that is good for most emails and text. This will allow your hands, wrists, and arms time to have a rest all while still allowing you to work effectively.

Sit with Your Feet Flat and Sit Back in Your Chair

Sitting like a humped over turtle is not a good idea due to it results in your lower back to curve in toward your belly. This is called lordosis, and it the most relaxed posture for the lower back and as a result it puts the least amount of pressure on the intervertebral discs in that region. The opposite of that when you have kyphosis, which is when you lean forward the lumbar spine bends out, and that puts a lot of pressure on the intervertebral lumbar discs. The optimal way of sitting in all the way back in your chair with your feet flat on the floor of which supports the natural lordotic curve of your lumbar spine and therefore supporting your back. If you are unable to sit all the way back a lumbar support would be a great choice even if you have to improvise with a cushion or a rolled-up towel behind your lower back. This is a great alternative to having to spend the extra money on an ergonomic chair. To promote blood flow in the legs it is best not to let your feet dangle and try very hard not to pull your feet under the chair because it puts added pressure under your thighs and restrict blood flow to your feet and lower legs thus increasing your risk of deep vein thrombosis. The best idea if you do not have an adjustable chair is to put a stool or a stack of books under your feet while seated.

Dr. Garrett Weinstein who practices at 7 locations and is the pioneer of Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida realizes how busy we all were before COVID-19 with family and community obligations, but times have changed. We question where and why we are leaving the house and is it very important that we take a risk? The answer is YES because while we leave our security of home and being quarantined, there are times we must maintain our own wellbeing in order to take care of our responsibilities as well as our families. Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida respect the time you leave the safety of your home and family; however, if you are involved in a car accident during the COVID-19 you need extra special attention and the ability to get as a victim of someone else’s negligence with an attorney office that makes previsions to help you get the treatment you need to recover from your accident in a timely fashion. The attorneys of many local, regional, and statewide firms depend on a chiropractor’s office that takes quarantine seriously, which would be Chiropractic Centers of South Florida. The bottom line is that after a car accident you need to be able to receive treatment and still feel safe so that you can heal and get back to your normal way of living.

When you are in a car accident, the forces from the crash cause your body to experience more stress than usual. This additional stress can result in a number of soft tissue injuries, such as sprains, strains, contusions, tears and fractures, dizziness, headaches, vomiting, neck pain, mid and lower back pain, pain and numbness down the arms and feet, shoulder pain, knee pain, wrist pain, and hip pain. The symptoms of these injuries are sometimes obvious right after an accident. Other times, they may take a while to appear.

Regardless if you feel immediate or delayed pain, it is important to see a chiropractor after a car accident as soon as possible, this will help prevent further injury and allow you to quickly begin treatment. It also minimizes the risks that come with not seeing a doctor after a car crash. If you don’t see a doctor right away, insurance may not cover the expenses associated with your injury, you might wave the right to personal injury coverage, you may be unable to pursue legal action, or you might have health complications.

Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida provides several treatments that can help manage the pain that is a result of your car accident:

Physical Therapy – Physical Therapy (PT) is a form of treatment and care that aims to ease pain and help you function, move, and live better. Physical therapy sessions are designed to help you perform exercises and stretching that assist to strengthen your muscles and help in relieving pain. This is especially useful to help ease pain without medications, injections, or surgery. Physical therapy can shorten recovery time. It can strengthen your muscles and improve range of motion. Fortunately, with Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida can provide physical therapy in the same facility that you receive other facets of treatment listed below.

Chiropractic Treatment – After an accident, it is quite common to seek the help of a chiropractor. A chiropractor places an emphasis on treatment through manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine. Sudden impacts from auto accidents can cause misalignments of your spine and affect the nerves and muscles, which can cause severe pain. The adjustments that we provide help reduce pain and inflammation in order to decrease your recovery time. We ensure your vertebrae and extremity joints are aligned and able to function correctly. One of the techniques we use to do this is spinal decompression that works by gently stretching the spine over a period of several treatments. The idea is that the spinal decompression technique changes the force and position of the spine. This change takes the pressure off of the spinal disks by creating negative pressure in the disc, resulting in the bulging or herniated disks that may retract, taking pressure off the nerves and other structures in your spine. This in turn, helps to promote the movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the disks so they can heal while reducing your pain.

Hot and Cold Pack – This is an easy treatment that can be utilized from just about anywhere. Surprisingly, the effects of hot and cold packs work wonders for fractures, sprains, soft-tissue injuries, swelling, and many other conditions. Ice is the initial recommended treatment for acute injuries, however, it is very beneficial during your recovery because after you receive therapy, regardless if it is physical therapy or a chiropractic adjustment because it is the best way to reduce swelling and control pain without medications. Moist heat is followed after receiving ice because it increases circulation and raises skin temperature.
Massages- Massage therapy in our offices use a variety of techniques to manipulate your joints and soft tissues to improve your body’s overall health. It involves manipulating the soft tissues of the body. Most chiropractors use massage therapy as a part of their practice. Massage therapy can relieve muscle pain and improve blood circulation.

Exercise – Although we know on a daily basis exercise is important for everyone’s health and well-being but can be especially useful when dealing with accident pain. As you heal, our chiropractors may recommend certain exercises and stretches that will build strength in injured muscles and improve your flexibility. The Misaligned Spine and What to do About It

The Misaligned Spine and What to do About It

The Misaligned Spine and What to do About It

The goal is to keep your spine aligned properly which simply means that your body maintains a relatively straight line from your head down to your shoulders and back, as well as your hips, knees, and feet. Having proper alignment goes way beyond maintaining good posture and “sitting up straight”. It is a sure way of preventing long-term pain in the future as your body gets older. Having a misalignment of the spine can also impact your range of motion, and severe issues can affect your quality of life.

The body the majority of the time does not give a sudden warning that your spine is out of alignment it usually is slow and silent until the one day you start to notice pain around several joints in the body. You can do a few simple exercises to strengthen the muscles that support the structure of the body to assist with a healthy alignment. Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida can not stress enough how important it is to have continuous chiropractic care to assist with keeping your body alignment intact.

Your spine is a column of bones, called vertebrae, that extends from the base of your skull to the pelvis. It is the stability and support for your body. Although the spine does stabilize the back is has other responsibilities as well. It assists with distributing weight properly, protects the spinal cord, supports the head, and provides attachment for the ribs. There are many signs and symptoms that are related to a misaligned spine such as:

There are several issues that can accompany a misaligned spine that you might not relate to this being the cause of the problem. A misaligned spine can cause fractures in bones in the spine called vertebrae, respiratory issues, insomnia, digestive problems, and of course chronic pain.

There are some home remedies that assist with aligning the spine such as exercises and stretches. When sitting too long take time even at work to go for a short walk for this aids in reducing the pressure off your sit bones and lower back. Another great idea for those of you who work sitting down for long periods of time try using a stability ball at work for about 15-20 minutes several times a day instead of your office chair.

In the chiropractic world, keeping the problem fixed and preventing its reoccurrence is just as important as the initial remedy. A spinal adjustment is one of the more common chiropractic treatments. As you lie on the chiropractic table the doctor and physically adjust your joints and tissues to reduce the pain and inflammation. Through treatments such as spinal decompression, physical therapy, and chiropractic adjustments. The adjustments realign the spine into its proper position, which alleviates pain and facilitates proper spine movement.

There are several questions you can ask your self if you are questioning if your pain or ailment could be the result of a misaligned spine.

  • Is one leg shorter than the other?
  • Are you comfortable lying on your back?
  • Is one shoulder higher than the other?
  • Are you easily winded (short of breath)?
  • Are there things that you are no longer able to do?
  • Is your digestion sluggish?
  • Are you having headaches?
  • Do you have recurring infections?
  • Do you have allergies?

If you said, “Yes” to three or more of these questions you might have a misaligned spine.

For help with chronic pain from an accident or injury, Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida has several locations in Pompano Beach, North Miami, West Palm Beach, Hollywood, Miami Lakes, Miami Airport, and Kendall in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Allergy and Asthma Help Through Chiropractic Care

Allergy and Asthma Help Through Chiropractic Care

Allergy and Asthma Help Through Chiropractic Care

You may be familiar with the fact that chiropractic adjustments can improve a lot of conditions, but what you may not be aware of is that chiropractic treatment can have a positive impact on allergies and asthma too. If you suffer from seasonal allergies or asthma, read on to see how your chiropractor can help.

The Immune System Link

A chiropractor’s job is fairly straightforward: to make sure your spine is in alignment.  What this translates too as far as your health is concerned is not as straightforward.  Research shows, however, that there is a direct link between the nervous system and the immune system. When your chiropractor removes nerve interference, that will allow your immune system to work optimally.

When an immune system is functioning well it helps to prevent disease and infection, helps you to deal with stress, and basically makes sure you are healthy overall.  It also tackles the invasion of foreign substances like pollution, dust, and pollen and heads them off before they can do damage. In order to coordinate and control the proper functioning of the immune system, it is mandatory that there is good communication between the brain and spinal cord. A miss alignment of the neck can cause an interruption in the communication and as a result, the immunity becoming compromised. Manipulating the joints and soft tissues through chiropractic care can help restore the alignment to allow the pathways of communication that you need to have a healthy immune system

Allergies

Seasonal or not, all allergies are the result of an exaggerated response by the immune system to substances that it recognizes as foreign.  In allergic persons, the immune system produces a specific antibody known as immunoglobulin E (IgE) in response to pollen, pet dander, foods, dust, and other matters which then produces the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Regular adjustments can assist in regulating the rush of histamine and cortisol during high allergy season. Histamines start the process that hustles those allergens out of your body. They can make you sneeze, tear up, or itch — whatever it takes to get the job done. They are part of your body’s defense system. Chiropractors have the skill and the knowledge to use a holistic approach in the treatment you receive. This is an advantage because chiropractic care utilized not only traditional chiropractic adjustments or spinal decompression but they also can assist your allergies by helping you determine lifestyle and dietary changes that you can make to reduce allergy symptoms and improve your overall health. Allergy sufferers commonly have a direct link between their allergies and weak adrenal glands. The adrenal gland is fed directly by the T9 spinal level nerve root and when not in alignment the body is not able to effectively fight off allergens.

Asthma

In people who suffer from asthma, misalignments are common in the upper back.  This can lead to shortness of breath and a kind of short circuit between the brain and the muscles.  Chiropractic care can help to repair these misalignments and that may help with some of the underlying issues related to complications from asthma. Difficulty sleeping, daytime fatigue, decreased activity levels, and the ability to concentrate and carry out normal daily activities are a direct result of asthma. During an asthma attack, the lining in the bronchial tubes becomes swollen and as a result, there is a reduction in airflow of which causes wheezing and breathlessness. Chiropractors do not formally treat asthma however aligning the spine through manipulations of the thoracic spinal segments can improve the nerve synapsis and improve the function of the lungs and bronchial tubes.

Ongoing Treatment

In order for your chiropractor to help keep your body’s ability to heal at its optimal level, you need to have regular wellness adjustments.  If you fail to do this, then your body could go right back into a state of dysfunction again, which will make you more susceptible to sickness or disease.  Exercise and eating right will assist your immune system to keep you healthy.  Contact Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida for all your chiropractic needs.

Pregnancy and Chiropractic – What a Relief

Pregnancy and Chiropractic – What a Relief

Pregnancy and Chiropractic – What a Relief

Some describe pregnancy as the most memorable experience of their lives and a few use *different* words to describe it. Nausea, headaches, heartburn, fatigue, and back pain may be some of the symptoms that are encountered during their pregnancy. 50% to 75% of pregnant women have back pain during their pregnancy and the percent goes up during labor. As the pregnancy moves along and the baby gets bigger the pain increases and can limit what you are able to do. Luckily, there is enough research these days to offer insight on how one specific kind of care can offer relief during gestation.

Chiropractic care according to the American Pregnancy Association “Chiropractic care is health maintenance of the spinal column, discs, related nerves and bone geometry without drugs or surgery. It involves the art and science of adjusting misaligned joints in the body, especially of the spine, which reduces spinal nerve stress and therefore promotes health throughout the body”.

Some may think that “cracking my back” could be dangerous for my baby and may not understand exactly how beneficial Chiropractic can be. Many Chiropractors specialize in pregnancy and all are trained in caring for pregnant patients during their training to become doctors. The techniques that are used with pregnant women are tailored to avoid any unneeded pressure on the abdomen.

When the abdomen protrudes it causes a change in the alignment of the spine by increasing the curve in the lower back, pelvic changes, and postural adaptations that can lead to a misalignment of the spine or joints. Having a vaginal birth is the ultimate goal and can be interrupted if the mother does have pelvic balance and the pelvis becomes misaligned resulting in a c-section. Having continual chiropractic care during your whole pregnancy can significantly decrease in back labor when the time comes to deliver your baby.

There are many changes that occur during pregnancy that ultimately contribute to changes in the spine and joints such as:

  • The increase in breast size to prepare for lactation causes additional strain to the mid and upper back.
  • Lumbar spinal joints are affected when the lumbar curve is increased due to gravity moving forward as the abdomen grows.
  • Pelvic misalignment and the spreading of the pelvis to slowly prepare for the ability of the baby to come through the birth canal.
  • Hormones during pregnancy loosen joints which increases mobility and decreases the stability of the joints.
  • The rib cage is affected as the baby grows and fetal movement increases of which causes aggravation to mid-back joints that connect to the ribs.
  • Pelvic joints, hip joints, sciatic nerves, and supporting uterine ligaments are impacted due to an altered gait.

There are many benefits to chiropractic care while you are pregnant. It can relieve back, neck, or joint pain, prevent a cesarean delivery, and allow you to have a less stressful and more comfortable pregnancy. We would also like to mention that chiropractic care after the birth of your baby can assist with the alignment of the spine and joints to return to normal in a monitored and controlled environment. Why Physical Therapy after a Car Accident?

Why Physical Therapy after a Car Accident?

Why Physical Therapy after a Car Accident?

Physical therapists are musculoskeletal experts, well-suited to treat the underlying musculoskeletal injuries that may have occurred because of a car accident. The result of a car accident is stressful and painful. You may not notice pain or stiffness immediately but for many of us, the pain will come in the following days. It is crucial to seek medical treatment immediately to rule out any possibility of a fracture that might have occurred due to the accident.

There are several types of injuries that are common in car accidents and can benefit from physical therapy. Some of these are whiplash, headaches, back pain, neck pain, shoulder, and knee pain. You can speed up the recovery time when physical therapy is added to your treatment. Repairing and strengthening damaged tissues and muscles is the ultimate goal of therapy. Physical agents such as heat, ice, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation may be used. Manual techniques are often used to help improve mobility. Some injuries are more severe and some retraining of everyday functions, such as brushing your teeth or opening a door and physical therapy in addition to occupational therapy is often beneficial.

One of the goals of physical therapy is to attempt to prevent an injury from going from acute to chronic. After an accident, you may feel as though it might be impossible to do the things that you could do before the accident. Physical therapy allows you to boost your mental health which is the key to gain optimal success with your treatment. As you continue to progress and achieve the goals that the physical therapist sets for you it will promote your confidence that with hard work you can recover from your injuries.

Physical therapy can accelerate your recovery process by aiding in healing by restoring function and mobility. It can also avoid or delay your need for surgery. Surgery should be the last resort for an injury and with physical therapy, it is possible to postpone until a more convenient time; it is common that with diligent and consistent care surgery may not even be necessary. If orthopedic surgery is necessary than physical therapy before the procedure can allow for a speedy recovery especially if you continue your care with your personal physical therapist after your surgery.

Finally, we would like to mention pain medications and the ability to utilize physical therapy to keep the need to take them to a minimum and reduce the length of time you spend on them. Physical therapy can assist by restoring function and mobility by improving your flexibility, strength, and range of motion of which will improve the consistent pain and allow you to live a life that doesn’t revolve around the need for pain medications.

Chiropractic Treatment is Very Successful for Multiple Sclerosis

Chiropractic Treatment is Very Successful for Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis, also known as MS, is an autoimmune disease where the immune system begins to destroy the outer layer of tissue that surrounds and protects the nerves, also known as myelin, in the brain and spinal cord.

Due to the deterioration of the myelin, it causes a lack of communication between the nerves and brain. When the body attacks itself causes a disruption but after a period of time the nerves become destroyed and as a result there is debilitating complications.

Primarily people who are between the ages of 20-40 years old.  The result of the inflammation is that it causes pain and compromises joint mobility. MS often causes other autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease of which cause excruciating pain.

There are many symptoms that go along with autoimmune disorders such as muscle spasms, changes in brain functions, including memory loss and depression.

It is common for Multiple Sclerosis to take time for a medical doctor to diagnose. This is a very tricky diagnosis due to many autoimmune diseases have the same symptoms and the disease also has a habit of being severe or mild and even goes into remission.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), often with gadolinium enhancement is the master in diagnosing MS. The patient will often have several attacks followed by a period of being symptom-free and after the cycle is consistent the medical doctor will prescribe for an MRI. The MRI usually will reveal lesions in the brain and/or spinal cord; in addition, a cerebrospinal fluid analysis for immunoglobulin content will be performed by a lumbar puncture (spinal tap).

The first line of treatment is usually immunosuppressant therapy which knocks down the immune system. Unfortunately, it comes with its own complications such as liver or kidney damage. These medications often cause side effects that mimic the disease itself with pain and stiffness, overall lethargy, and dizziness. Pain medications do help during extreme flair ups but cannot be a consistent life long treatment due to the chance of addiction and being that the FDA has done a “crackdown” on the amount that can be prescribed and who can prescribe them.

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) such as Chiropractic is an excellent way to manage the pain and discomfort that comes with Multiple Sclerosis. By no means is this a single alternative for medical treatment with pharmaceuticals but in addition to the treatment regimen, it can promote a better quality of life.

Chiropractic manipulations will help realign both the spine and the pelvis that is altered due to the progression of the disease. This will assist the muscles to work more efficiently and gain some tone which can prevent deterioration. MS can cause what is called foot drop and this can alter your gait and cause pain in the lower back and hip of which can be treated with holistic medicine. Chiropractic care can improve the alignment of the neck for many patients with MS complain of pain due to the misalignment of C1 and C2 vertebrae.  If you or a loved one suffers with any autoimmune disease and your standard of care could use a lifeline call Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida 877-881-4878.

Opioids vs. Chiropractic the Truth

Opioids vs. Chiropractic the Truth

Statistically speaking it is probable that almost everyone in America has someone they know that has been affected by opioid epidemic.

Whether it is you personally, a spouse, child, parent, or a good friend it is devastating to watch and the lack of control to have the ability to fix the problem.

Opioid addiction is an epidemic in the United States and unless we educate the public on alternatives and enforce stronger regulations it will only get worse.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that more than 30,000 people die from opioid addiction overdose in the US alone.

For as many years as we know there has been some form of pain medication. Even before there were laws in place to monitor the safety and regulations of these drugs they have existed.

While opioids that produce morphine-like effects on our bodies do relieve pain relief. Opioids are beneficial for people battling cancer, they are also used to treat pain after a surgery and people with intense or chronic pain. Opioids become a concern when they are used for the treatment/pain management over long periods of time.

This is because the effects of opioids trick the brain into thinking in order to survive it needs the drug rather than being utilized for pain.

The emotional and financial toll opioid addiction takes on a person’s life is unprecedented to no other addiction. The reason for this can be so very devastating for many is because it is a silent addiction in regard to the very people that prescribe opioids are some of the people in our lives, we trust the most.

Physicians have and obligation to monitor and keep us safe during treatment, However, by continuing to prescribe an addictive substance for long periods of time it is inevitable the majority become addicted.

We live in a “if it hurts take a pill” society. What people do not understand is that prescription medication may temporarily relieve the pain it does not fix the source of where the pain originates.

This is where many chiropractors and holistic physicians have come into play. Chiropractic Clinics of South Florida has the expertise needed to work not only with treating the pain that comes with coming off pain medication but also as an alternative to ever starting them.

Many of our patients use chiropractic care as a long-term pain management plan, as it is highly effective, natural, noninvasive, and allows to skip the problems associated with long-term opioid consumption.

Chiropractic is a natural form of medicine that uses adjustments, cryotherapy, ultrasound, and trigger point therapy to not only to correct misalignments of the spine but also restore proper function to the nervous system, helping to naturally heal the body and mind.

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) recommends conservative care, like drug-free chiropractic as a first-line treatment before moving on to potentially addictive remedies for pain. Chiropractic care comes with a host of benefits increase the quality of life but has also been shown more viable alternative to opioids for managing pain.
